We welcome you to the city of the Viking King. Norway’s first capital.

More one thousand years have passed since the Viking King Olav Tryggvasson sailed in the fiord and decided that just here, the city, which he called Nidaros, were to be situated. From his column on the market square, the Viking King overlooks his thousand year old city.

After the burial in Nidaros of the Saint King Olav, Olav Haraldsson, who fell in the battle of Stiklestad in 1030, several of the medieval kings have been buried here. Norway’s Royal Regalia are kept in Trondheim and the Nidaros Cathedral is Norway’s Crowning church. The Nidaros Cathedral has been selected Norway’s most prominent monument. Today, Trondheim is a centre of gravity for high tech research and education. Trondheim is Norway’s 3^rd biggest city, but you will find almost everything within walking distance from the city centre.

Make use of everything Trøndelag has to offer; fishing and the coastal culture, the story about the place where Norway was born, the charming towns, the creative people and the rich fauna of the national parks.
